Overview

Glooko, a digital health company with a compute-heavy infrastructure, was looking for ways to reduce cloud costs without compromising application stability. With a large portion of their workloads running on ECS, they needed a solution that could safely leverage Spot instances while maintaining reliability across environments.

By partnering with nOps, Glooko adopted Spot optimization across their ECS clusters and later expanded into Commitment Management to unlock additional savings. This combined approach enabled them to significantly reduce compute costs while continuing to scale their platform.

Challenges

Glooko’s infrastructure relied heavily on ECS workloads, making compute costs a major area of concern. The team needed a way to reduce spend while ensuring that their applications remained stable and reliable.

Solution

Glooko first adopted nOps’ Spot optimization solution for ECS using Autoscaling Groups. With built-in controls and customization options, nOps enabled the team to safely run Spot instances across all environments, including development and production workloads.

Following the success of the initial deployment, Glooko expanded the use of Spot optimization across all ECS clusters, maximizing cost efficiency while maintaining application stability.

To further enhance savings, nOps introduced Commitment Management as an additional optimization layer. This allowed Glooko to capture incremental savings beyond Spot by continuously optimizing commitments based on usage patterns.

Together, Spot optimization and Commitment Management provided a comprehensive approach to compute cost optimization, operating continuously to improve efficiency across the environment.
